Web Resources: KPBS on the Cost of Punishment

Over at KPBS-TV of San Diego, you can watch or download the special that aired earlier this week, “Life in Prison: The Cost of Punishment.” The documentary takes viewers inside three California state prisons, including the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, which houses the Golden State’s oldest and sickest inmates. As you’ll notice, the site also features a slew of related links, including photos from inside Vacaville, brief interviews with some of California’s aging inmates, and an interview with victims’ rights advocate Harriet Salarno, who has lobbied for tough sentencing laws. Here, KPBS reporter Joanne Faryon discusses her reporting into California’s costly prison system.
